Follow-Up of the Day: There’s More to the Story of the Anti-Gay Ranter: Jane Svoboda, whose anti-gay rant at a Lincoln, NE, City Council meeting went viral last week, isn’t the crazy conservative she’s been made out to be in the media, but a schizophrenic who lives at an assisted-living facility, says her family.
Svoboda is listed as a protected person, according to court documents, and her brother, Patrick Svoboda, is her conservator because she is incompetent. He said their family has tried to get her help multiple times, but there’s little they can do unless she becomes a danger to herself or others.
He said he’s disappointed that the video was so widely shared when people didn’t know his sister’s back story.
“To me, it shows how little society really cares about people with mental health issues,” Patrick Svoboda said. “She does have a very tender heart… but anything she says is certifiably schizophrenic … she’s not some crazy conservative.”
Nonetheless, Jane Svoboda is a registered lobbyist at the Capitol, and she usually speaks twice a month during the council’s open mic sessions. She also frequents the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, where she hands out fliers and is known as the “Crazy Blue Protesting Lady.”

Yea, since that’s my school/part time home and I know people who laugh at this lady I just thought I would emphasize that part. There’s nothing funny about schizophrenia or any mental illness.

Jon Stewart took to The Daily Show last night to talk about the Penn State child sexual abuse scandal, and gave a serious commentary about how people knew of Sandusky’s abuse and didn’t do anything, as well as the recent student rioting over the firing of coach Joe Paterno.
When he gets serious, it’s like being caught in a laser beam.
He hit the nail right on the head.
Perfection
That awkward moment when your school’s football team will be the first to play Penn State after all this shit has gone down. No but really, I think it’s going to be really fucking awkward.

It’s game day here which means Memorial Stadium is currently the third largest “city” in Nebraska. (I’m not even making this up. It holds 87,000+ people.)
That also means that I’m supposed to be displaying my school spirit which happens to be something I severely lack so here I am…wearing my one Nebraska shirt…that’s bright green…never really been big on red (I think my hair covers that one.) My aunt and uncle got me this shirt specifically because it was the only non red one they could find. They get me so well.
Now excuse me while I go watch Dr. Who and continue not actually caring about the game.
That awkward moment when you walk into the dining hall and it’s filled with masses of students wearing red and you’re wearing your obnoxious Ocean City, Maryland shirt.
Whatever.
